When a representative of Wasabi Air visits your home or business to assess for a heat pump or air conditioning system, you will be talking to a trade qualified Refrigeration Engineer

This person has been through intensive training as an apprentice and has built up extensive experience in the years since then. We are all kept up to date with the latest innovations and regulations through on-going training and study. We maintain current Electrical Practicing Licences, which means that while we ourselves may not be installing the system we know what is approved and what must be avoided.

In the last 5 or so years there has been an incredible increase in people ‘selling’ heat pumps, some of these sales people have minimal or no training nor qualifications at all and are after a quick profit. Heat pumps are complex systems and the correct heat pump must be specified every time.

Comparing Apples with Apples
When comparing quotes it is important to check that you are comparing like with like. The other quote might be cheaper due to a smaller capacity system having been quoted.

If a system is undersized, the purchase price may be cheaper but the running costs will be higher. There will also be more chance of frequent defrosting of the outdoor unit and the desired temperature not being reached when it is most needed.

If you have been quoted for the power supply to be taken from the back of a local power point, ask for confirmation that it won’t over load the circuit.

Indoor and outdoor unit location
Normally the outdoor unit should be installed on the north or west side of the home so that the unit is less prone to the affects of shade or frost, which can cause the unit to defrost regularly.

The location of the indoor unit is also important for the system to work well, with good air-flow into the required space and in a place where draft wouldn’t be an issue i.e placement above someones favourite chair or couch.

Qualifications
It is a good idea to ask the sales person what their qualifications and trade background are and that of their installation staff . You can also ask if they mind you contacting the manufacturer for a reference.

As a comparison, you probably wouldn’t want an ex builder repairing the brakes on your car unless he had been suitably trained in that role. While repairing of brakes may seem vastly more important safety wise, incorrectly specified and installed wiring etc can also be dangerous.

Please feel free to contact Matthew Norris of Fujitsu General on 021 2493683 or Marcus Donovan of BDT (Mitsubishi Electric) on 021 648 560 as referees.

Please also look at some of our testimonials from our own customers.

Wasabi Air is a member of The Climate Control Companies Association and individually we are members of the The Institute of Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers Association, which gives you, the customer, additional peace of mind.

Service and maintenance
After sales support is also important and in the event of a fault in the heat pump, we have trade qualified staff that can carry out repairs quickly and efficiently.

We also recommend an annual service of your unit.

Getting it right first time
Hopefully this has answered any questions about why you should use Stefan, Adrian and the team at Wasabi Air.
